Isokinetic Evaluation of the Knee Extensors and Flexors in the normal Korean male Adults.

Abstract
The isokinetic exercise equipment has been used to assess muscular strength accurately and objectively as well as to strengthen weak muscles effectively. In order to get the normative isokinetic data of the knee for clinical use, isokinetic evaluation of knee extensors and flexors at the speed of 30¢ª /sec, 90¢ª /sec, 180¢ª /sec with the Cybex ¥±^+ Isokinetic Dynamometer was done in 25 normal male adults. The results were as follows: 1) The mean peak torques of knee extensors at the speed of 30¢ª /sec, 90¢ª /sec and 180¢ª /sec were 145.1¡¾28.3 ft-lbs, 117.9¡¾17.4 ft-lbs, 96.9¡¾15.8 ft-lbs respectively. 2) The mean peak torques of knee flexors at the speed of 30¢ª /sec, 90¢ª /sec and 180¢ª /sec were 80.4¡¾14.2 ft-lbs, 67.6¡¾11.1 ft-lbs, 60.0¡¾10.3 ft-lbs respectively. 3) The torque values decreased as the speed of exercise increased. 4) The peak torque of knee flexors to extensors ratios at the speed of 30¢ª /sec, 90¢ª /sec and 180¢ª /sec were 55.5%, 57.9%, 61.9%, respectively. 4) The peak torque of knee extensors to body weight ratios at the speed of 30¢ª /sec, 90¢ª /sec and 180¢ª /sec were 93.1%, 76.1%, 61.8%. respectively. The peak torque of knee flexors to body weight ratios at the speed of 30¢ª /sec, 90¢ª /sec and 180¢ª /sec were 51.2%, 43.7%, 38.6%, respectively. 5) The angles of peak torque occurrence in knee extensors at the speed of 30¢ª /sec, 90¢ª /sec and 180¢ª /sec were 69.4 , 59.6 , 51.2 . Also the angles of peak torque occurrence in knee flexors at the speed of 30¢ª /sec, 90¢ª /sec and 180¢ª /sec were 25.5 , 35.3 , 48.6 , respectively.
